I bought an amazing canister vacuum, a SEBO E3, and now I never have to use a broom again, and that is the real Cadillac.

There are different levels to Goodyear welt shoes, especially for women as it hasn’t taken off in quite the same way in women’s fashion circles. But in short, I would say yes, they are absolutely worth it. If you get the right pair, the leather will stack up to the construction, and you’ll have them for 15+ years. Some brands I recommend for women are:
RM Williams. The OG Chelsea boot, and still some of the best out there.
Crockett and Jones. Exceptional pedigree, and a number of classic and daring styles.
Meermin + Carmina. Owned by the same family, they make shoes at slightly different price points. Meermin has a really good MTO program. Carmina is known for their unique lasts and their general elegance in design and construction.
Redwing is a bit of a toss up in terms of quality; some pairs still rock, but there have been many recent horror stories about them in the last decade or so. But the styles are classic and very good.
St. Crispins, John Lobb, and Edward Green are some of the highest level shoemaking brands, for hardcore enthusiasts only. Beautiful, to be sure, but oh so expensive.

I don't need anecdotes - I have direct experience. My Speed Queen washes fine. I wash lots of different kinds of clothes from different age groups. Sometimes I have 10 people in the house and someone is always doing laundry.
I don't think Wirecutter is much of a source and I stopped reading The NY Times a long time ago. I've got my own data. Of course you don't have to buy a Speed Queen, it's just something that has worked well for me for several years.

I have a handmade corn-broom with apple tree handle that's been in service for 18 years currently. Made by Sam Moyer in Southampton NJ. I also have two hearth brooms that are same age.

I found a push broom with a broken handle at the dump. I Made that mine and switched the handle out for a fiberglass one and I'm still using it 7 years later

I was wondering this as well! I have a Vileda broom that’s been kicking for forever with no problem, & a hand broom & dust pan from Dollarama that’s in the same condition after many years.

There are more ways to break one of those in under a minute than there are unique combinations.
Also fun fact; those combos work in intervals of 5, so if the box said 42, 52, 27. 40, 50, 25 would work just as well.

I'll add Fuller Brush Co. They were a well-known quality supplier back in the day (my grandparents day, US 50s-60s) and still crank out a quality product today. Pricey, but what I've seen in person is good stuff. Still family-owned apparently

We've got one, in-laws go yearly. Beautiful piece, multi-colored, thought it was ornamental. Came home to the wife sweeping the garage...turns out they're incredibly strong & highly functional

My mother in law had a broom made for us about the time we got married by a lady that live by her and makes brooms. I guess it’s a “tied” broom. Not sure what the bristles are made of. This thing is going 13 years strong and will last many many more years.

Canadian made Dudley locks are the best! Used the same lock without issue from grade 7 until year 4 of uni when it was cut off my gym locker :(
Unfortunately they are no longer made in Canada, and the new ones (made in China) are no where near as smooth.
Guard that lock with your life OP.

A push broom isn't the same as a house broom.
A push broom is used for large spaces with similar surfaces and straight edges. A house broom is designed for multiple surfaces with lots of corners.
