Don't get the top load Maytag without the agitator!! I bought it last year and it's a horrible piece of garbage that can't even clean sand off clothes. It barely uses any water, so rather than be efficient I have to run the loads multiple times.

It's basically brand new and we are debating buying a new one because it's so incredibly frustrating.

Well.. the dream starts out remembering that I was actually supposed to be going to math class all year, but I had forgotten. Now the school year is almost over and I need to get to that class... Oh man I don't remember where it is. I need to somehow figure that out. Ok figured that out, oh man I need the book for the class... It's in my locker... Where is my locker.... Oh here it is.... Oh crap, what is my combo.... Figure that out, get the book and run to class..... WTF WHERE ARE MY PANTS!

I got myself a tied corn straw broom off of Etsy about three years ago. It’s beautiful and still looks brand new, it does a great job. I think they’re also known as shaker brooms, straw brooms or corn straw brooms. I got it because my mom had one that lasted her from the time I was a little one up until she died and wanted something that would last.

I originally saw it in NYC in the 80’s in an electronics store shop window (they were everywhere then) while on a college field trip and instantly fell in love with it. They do show up on EBAY regularly and there are YouTube vids of them in action.

Considering it weighs almost 50 lbs. fully loaded with it’s 10 D batteries I haven’t done it for awhile (I’m almost 60) but from what I remember it only really does it if you bounce it off your shoulder when walking. It’s an absolute beast.

Yes, it's not as popular as it used to be, but I find hard to believe that this is something that completely gone. The thing is that making something "three times as strong" is (potentially) costly in resources and energy, so we don't really want that either. So sure, it cannot be the case to any home appliance, but I'd expect that some major ones should still be offered.

There is a makers and hackers market out there. People who (think they) are good with their hands. These people would probably be happy to build their own washing machine or their own toaster or their own whatever. I'd expect that they'll be happy to put 10-20 percent more to their device knowing that they can fix/modify it.

And one last thing, the rule of three is not a great solution either. It's waistful. If I build car that can sustain a hit of a bullet, then it means that I paid more in materials and will pay more in energy. It's not as bad as replacing your car every two years (yes, I know people who do that) but it is not great either.

You can repair appliances, you just need to figure out how. Try YouTube, try old repair manuals, try taking stuff apart and putting it back together. The reason this step-by-step stuff isn’t around, is because once you know one (sewing machine, car, whatever) you know how to either figure out how to apply what you know to a new item, or how to search for what you need.
