Here at my country cb is pretty much dead which is sad because I used it much about 30 years ago :-(

Maybe but ham radio is better in terms of performance off road than cb ever was. I've always had a 2m radio installed but never really had anyone to talk to off road until recently lol.

That's because overland is just a branch of the tacticool LARP.

Midland 75-822 is the smallest I can think of. Plugs into a cigarette lighter. Never owned one so no idea if it is any good. Quite a few CB handhelds are still big. Lot of big mobile radios too.
For whatever reason a lot of cb radios are stuck in the 70s/80s in terms of design. Maybe because there's no money in redesigning?
The smallest dedicated mobile you can get, as far as I know, is a Uniden 510 or 520. Even those have been around for decades; I got mine in the late 90s (it's still working after years of four wheeling)

It's amazing how long something lasts if it's never used and stored in a protective case.

I was honestly quite surprised. I signed up for some random online training/webinar series during the pandemic they were offering. Everyone who joined was surprised with a gift box that included a nice solid canvas tote, that yeti coffee mug and a bar of some decent dark chocolate. I’m sure there were several hundred people who participated, so it certainly wasn’t cheap for them.

I have a cb, and mostly listen to the trucker channel when I'm on road trips... They can be hilarious... But I've never actually had to use it for emergency purposes

CB was the go to communication for a lot of off-roaders (like 4x4 , jeep, etc) for some years and it is no doubt still used, but "overlanding" folks seem to favor Ham radio. And of course some use FRS/GMRS.
(Overlanding as in, wheeling and camping in a new spot each night, roof top tent, full kitchen in the back of the truck type stuff)

Is this true vs. ham radio?
I'm not an expert on either, but briefly looked into getting a radio for my rig when I lived out west and explored far out into no man's land CA and TX.

It was a big thing in the 1970s, good buddy. I still have the CB dad installed in the family car for summer road trips lol.

If they give you a gift card, they have to tax you on it now. Very frustrating and why a lot of companies don't do it any more. They don't want to have to track it.

You can try Avex Freeflow.
I got one for around $40-50 and it has lasted ~4 years so far. It has at least 10-20 drops on hard surfaces but not even a single visible scratch. The only real damage is from my baby daughter's teeth on the rubberized button for opening it.
It is not the easiest to clean and a bit heavy but perfect in every other way.

Also one could argue the company doesn’t even need to purchased a backpack or item.. maybe a bonus check or gift card to a local restaurant would be even better and lower waste than an actual item. My company loves to give gifts for awards but it ends up being some stupid branded clock or desk trinket or a backpack/water bottle of which I have enough already. I mean stop by any goodwill and you’ll find lots of used items like that.

Channel 19 up here in the north to get ahold of the truckers. I like the squelch slider instead of a knob.

Reply to What is a good BIFL backpack, around 30-35L for a laptop, tablet, work gear and a change of clothes? by clippervictor
I have a simple north face backpack that I have absolutely abused for 15 years. I used it everyday for college, geology field trips carrying loads of rocks in the back country, now carrying equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.
