Oh really? I thought Irish setter was a model of redwing boot, thanks for letting me know. My boss has some Irish setters and is mad he can't find them at the red wing store any more.

probably about as good as any other top loader. if you wash your clothes in cold water, the washer probably isn't a huge energy hog. the dryer on the other hand...

I got a pair of Danner Quarry boots for $250. Unfortunately you won't get BIFL boots for $125.

I wouldn't recommend the cordless after hearing about the low battery life. Corded all the way

They can do that, not sure what OP is talking about. As you say, it’s just a regular automatic with a sellita movement that any watch guy can repair

The core idea is to have the user rewarding the producer not the other way around. The user has no incentive to break it or fake it because it will get returned to the producer. If it's truly broken both sides lose - the user loses the product, the producer loses potential 40-50% profit over the next 4-5 years.
MrWieners t1_j9ynz52 wrote
Okay so this seems untrue to me. Shinola has well known shady marketing practices with the whole “made in Detroit” thing. But ultimately shinola uses the same movement that shit tons of other watches use and they are not unreliable. The mechanical watches use Sellita movements which are high quality Swiss movements that are mass produced
Also, whoever told you a regular watch guy can’t do the job is full of shit.

Just spitballing but even asking them to verify doesn't stop someone from claiming it's broken and just not verifying.
What about reversing the payment system and having them pay premium and receiving a small rebate each year they verify? That would definitely handle the problem of faking that it's broken to avoid fees, and might incentivize people also to repair if broken rather than paying for that and then also paying a fee to use it another year. Just thoughts...

Reply to comment by ConBroMitch in BIFL request: cookware that's not cast iron? by AutomaticMistake
I have Demeyere and All-Clad. Both are great. Demeyere is more beautiful imo. My son inherited my mother's Demeyere - it actually is built for life. I think All-Clad might be heritable too.
(I frequently do stew tomato sauce for hours - spaghetti sauce -- and that's one thing I don't use my cast iron for.)
acathode t1_j9ynr2h wrote
If you want stainless steel, which is probably the most "general use" material you can get for cookware, it depends a bit on where you're shopping.
In the US, All-Clad is probably your best value/performance/durability, while the high end EU brands become to expensive due to the added extra cost of importing them.
In the EU, it's the other way around, All Clad becomes way too expensive due to the added cost of importing, while at the same time there are several high end EU brands like Demeyere that offer product lines with the same or better quality.
Something like a Demeyere Proline skillet is built like a tank and in many ways outperform your average All Clad D3 skillet - but if you're in the US the Proline seem to be more than 2x the cost of a D3, which isn't worth it.
Personally, I've tried cooking with a few different pans, and my personal preference is Demeyere for stainless steel - but I'm also in the EU.

I wouldn’t want to listen to music on that for 8 minutes let alone 8 years. BIFL isn’t just something that lasts a long time, it also has to have an element of high quality as well.
This potato speaker isn’t on that level.

No not at all. I just mean it’s not your classic BIFL product. I’ve found the battery life has faded quite a bit on mine, as well. I was just saying the commenter above you had a point (if hyperbolic).

Appreciate the recommendations, yeah my main issue with redwings is not exactly the price, it's just, if I'm spending $300+ on boots I don't want to complain about them being too heavy or stuff which is ultimately what my buddies all say about their redwings.
